Sensitivity Toward Islam
73
Sensitivity toward Islam is all the buzz all over the world today. We want to show the Muslims of the world that we are not at war with them, we are at war with Al-Queda. So we walk on eggshells and all the talks of the Mosque that is going to be built two blocks from the ground zero, in New York City. We have to be careful that we don't offend our Muslim friends.
Now when I say Muslim friends, I am talking about the Muslims who are not anti-American. Those who are for peace and believe that the Quran teaches just that. I have Muslim friends and there are Muslims that live and work in my community that are not burning buildings and terrorising everyone.
We have to understand who our enemy really is. If you are an American citizen, I don't care if you are Muslim, Jew, Catholic, or Christian, we are neighbors and solders in the fight for freedom for all who want to be free. There is not one person on the face of this earth that doesn't want to be free. Ask those who are in Iraq now? I know they're democracy is still in it's infancy, but their commerce is slowly coming around and they are enjoy the fruits of freedom.
Realize that there will always be extremists on both sides. Unfortunately they are the ones who get all the press and attention. I have always said that the press is one of our enemies as well. They don't always print the truth, but they print the news. The scandals and attention getter's always make the front page.
In 2005 a cartoon about Muhammad sparked a worldwide protest. Buildings were burned and rioting in the streets and one hundred people lost their lives because these people were offended over these cartoons. Everyone should have been more sensitive. "We offended the Muslim faith", they said. The act of one man caused this reaction from these people. They identified this one mans action as something that the whole world must pay for.
In a small Florida church, Pastor Terry Jones, said if the Mosque is built in New York, he will burn a copy of the Quran on September 11. Pastor Terry Jones is one of those radicals that I spoke of, the ones who get all the press and attention. He certainly has the spot light on himself right now. Even President Obama called him and tried to talk him out of carrying this act out.
Now I don't agree with Pastor Terry Jones. I think he is wrong in doing this, but he has the right to do this if he wants too. It's part of living in a free country, just like they have the right to build the Mosque in New York.
This is where I have a problem. The world of radical Muslims, who gets offended by any sort of insult to their Islamic faith, a cartoon, a man who threatens to burn a copy of the Quran, (he has not done it), will riot, burn buildings, demonstrate their hate, and kill innocent people. Even the imam, Feisal Abdul Rauf, who is heading the building of the Mosque in New York, said that Muslims will respond violently around the world if Pastor Jones carries out his threat.
I think we have seen those spoiled brat children, that will pout and go into a rage if they don't get what they want. They throw a tantrum, start screaming, and spew out their anger and hate, until you give them what they want. They may not burn buildings or go out and kill innocent people, (that will come later when they get older). These same characteristics are what I see portrayed in the Muslims who follow these types of actions.
Well what about the feelings, emotions, and being sensitive to the victims families of those that died on September 11. 2001? Why is there none of the sensitivity toward Islam, that they want all of us to give them, being shown by them to this very solemn and sensitive place? These are not the Muslims that are rioting over in other countries, these are Muslims that live in America. Where is their sensitivity from them? Why aren't they respecting and honoring those families and all of America? Even if they don't build the Mosque there, just the fact that they would even think of building there shows me how insensitive they are. There is none.
They want all of the world to treat them like there some special people when I don't see any qualities or characteristics that render that kind of treatment. It's a two way street. You want me to be sensitive to your faith and your religious beliefs, then be sensitive to mine and the country that we both live in. If you are an American citizen and you live in and enjoy the freedoms and the quality of life that living in America affords, then start showing it.

We should have war with any evil.
We war with devil.
I am free man and i choose to what I am sensitive or not.
Hopefully bro you still love me.
Every religion is good and pious. Religion is giving guidance for the way of life under discipline. Radical people are there in every religion. But where is their strength. It is the people’s support of the religion. Muslims are proud of their religion like any other but in addition to that they are proud of their strength too, they want to do something not related with religion but with their strength.
Excellent comment
Brian, it's refreshing to read articles like yours where you explained the situation clearly, so thank you. Indeed, bigots, radicals and extremists are found everywhere and caught the media attention since they are source of news. Nevertheless, the real problem, in my opinion, is the misconceptions about Islam and stereotyping Muslims in a way that don't clearly separate between what extremists/terrorists do and what Islam calls for.
Hey Brian I agree with about 99% of what you said. It is a great hub and many valid points. There are many many idiots in every religion who give us all a bad name.
However first there is no ground zero mosque, there have never been any plans to build one, and this is as you called them a lie from our enemies in the press. Read this link to the news article, it has the actual building plans and permits that are for this PARK and LEARNING CENTER.
"Well what about the feelings, emotions, and being sensitive to the victims families of those that died on September 11. 2001? Why is there none of the sensitivity toward Islam, that they want all of us to give them, being shown by them to this very solemn and sensitive place?"
From what you wrote I am sure you know that Islam did not destroy those towers. Also the way America has treated Muslims of the the last 9 years, yes we do owe them something. The lies and deaths that we have forced into the laps of these people would make any one mad if they had to deal with it. That does not justify their actions or make them right, but it does kind of make them understandable. Americans were not the only people that died in those attacks, and along with the terrorists some very innocent Muslims died as a result of this too.
That being said, I wish more people thought like you. Unfortunately do to the media Islam has been turned into some hate mongering, pack of murdering monsters in the closet that want to jump out and eat you. Islam is the monster that our Government is using to keep us scared. As long as Americans are scared they know we will let them stomp all over our Constitutional rights in the name of peace and security, and we will allow them to do what ever they want so we don't have to fear this mythical monsters any more. It is sad really, how so many Americans cling to the news like it is their god.
Bryan you obviously missed the entire point of my post. Muslims do speak out about Terrorist all the time, the American media doesn't report on it so you don't hear it. Just because you don't hear it on the news doesn't mean it is not happening. Look on the web my friend try madina.com look over the vast majority of Muslims on here and see what they say about it. Just because people think that is the way it is doesn't make it so either.
Obviously you didn't read the article about the so called Mosque. It is a park and learning center with a prayer room for all faiths Brian, it is just being built by Muslims so what, its not worth all the good that will come from it? One room in an entire building. You know a Hospital has a chapel in it, so according to your logic it should be a tax exempt place of worship right? You do know that the worship room in the building will have Islamic, Christian and Jewish books, symbols and prayer leaders? I guess that doesn't matter cause the news you claim to hate says other wise.
Sheesh man, I got the total wrong impression from this hub.
No Brian they were not Muslims, if you read the Qur'an they were the exact opposite of a Muslim. The only sensitivity problem caused was the medias fault and most Americans who blindly follow the T.V. Like it is their new god. Who sees all and tells no lies. Ye though I walk through the valley of T.V. Guide, I will fear no snow screens, for thou are with me, thy antenna and they Remote protect me, They lay me down on the couch by running channels, yadda yadda.
The people that attacked the tower were Arab sure, but Muslim they were not. If I say I am a Elephant or even President that makes me neither, nor does it make me Presidents of the Elephants but put it on the news and every one will believe it. We don't walk on egg shells with Christians when a wacko pops of a few cans of sarin gas in a subway, or a group of Christian militants try to subvert the US government. You know why, because Christianity is something Americans understand so they do don't fear it. If they understood Islam it would not be a sensitivity problem. In a country that claims to be about peace and understanding we are still stuck with the very primal instincts we claim to be above. America is not some diamond in the rough, our country is guilty of many unspeakable acts, but what its okay because we are Americans right? I guess the old "holier than thou" do as I say not as I do, is the american truth, hidden by big words and sad acts.
I am a disabled vet and I love the country, but that does not give me or anyone else the right to double standards and condemning others for the same acts we comment. No sir the only sensitivity problem here is Americas sensitivity to the truth and to the light my friend.
Sorry I spelled your name wrong man, I have a friend that spells it with the y and Im used to writing it that way I guess. Seriously though I am sorry, some people take great offence to that sort of thing and it was not my intent.
"ruthless blood thirsty animals that commit these types of crimes"
I have the gull to call this country whatever I damned well please. Not only is it my God given right Brian, but it is also the right I paid for in my own blood, much more than the average yuppie that wines about their freedoms.
This country has a long history of blood thirsty acts. Have you ever heard of MK Ultra? Yes there is some hoopla on the web about it that is lies, but the declassified documents are no lie, The CIA did test LSD on innocent Americans, by going to bars drugging their drinks kid napping them and locking them in rooms for hours and hours on end just to study their reactions. Yeah Great Country.
It is also A proven Fact that the CIA sold Crack in Boston and New York to fund their war on drugs in south America. Why would they do that Brian, if they are such a good and well meaning Government? The truth is Brian, I could cover a hundred or more such events.
Let me ask you this Brian, step into the Shoes of a person, who probably didn't have the best life, lived under a dictatorship, but just wanted to live their life. Had a wife and child, did the best he could. Then one day their savior comes in the name of a US soldier who promised to bring him a better life. A fair chance in this world. Oh what is that you say? No price it is free? Oh, it will only cost my wife and child and 3 million other innocent people? Oh yeah sure thats worth it come and take everything I have, even though it isn't much and I will love you for it. Come on Brian again I think you only see this from you American High Horse, which I am willing to bet you took with no blood sacrifice of your own.
I challenged you to look for the Muslims speaking out against this Brian, and you refuse to like they should come to you. Just because you wont accept it doesn't make it true. And those people have been trying to get that information out, hence the link I gave you to the news article Brian. And if you are half the man you claim to be in this hub you would help spread it and maybe earn your superior position.
"They were not Muslim? I don't know where you got that information?"
This statement here proves you are indeed a bigot. You can sit there in your American Glory, and say yes we denounce this and we denounce that, But I wont use any effort to see if Islam does the same because the media wont bring it to me, so I am better than you. Christians, and Americans are the perfect match for each other, that is why it has thrived so well in our country. Holier than thou, bigots who believe they are superior in every way, and spread their way with blood of millions and say, its okay though, I'm gonna bring you a better life. Then I'mm gonna hate every one else that does the same thing. Yeah brian such a great nation we have become. LOL. When you take 2 bullets for your country, have 13 re constructive surgeries, and 6 ruptured disc in you back to bring some one else a lie rapped in freedom, then you come talk to me brian. Because until then you are nothing but the same damn bigoted people you claim in your hub to hate. Typical superior american, who knows nothing about paying for freedom with blood. The cost often is not worth it to those who pay, only those like you who think they are better than every one else because they are wrapped in the red, white and blue, when people like me who put red on that flag have to listen to you moan about something which you no nothing about.
I got so angry I forgot my main point. Them not being Muslim.
They are as much Muslims as the people who do atrocious acts in the name of Christianity.
The difference between you and me is that I am able to see it objectively because I am not afraid of Islam. I took the time to learn about it. People fear that which they do not know, and it is obvious to me and any one else that knows Islam, that you do not know it.
Brian you talk about hate on your high horse, stay up there buddy. I know more about Christianity than the average Christian. Its okay for you to hate, and for Christians to hate but no one else. I was a Christian for 27 years my friend and I came to Islam while I was in seminary.
Maybe if you were no so convinced of your superiority you would see more than you obviously do. You claim to love this country so much yet you obviously don't care about anyone else's rights.
You have no idea how I view this country Brian. I never said I hated the US, I just told you the truth about this place. If I didn't love this country I never would have joined our all volunteer army. And the war in Afghanistan is a war that is all about freedom Brian. The only thing you have ever fought for was your right to blame something on an innocent people because you are too lazy to actually give a darn.
Hatred and anger, typical Christian double "holier than thou" standards.
Do you and me both a favor and take all my post off your hub Brian, you my friend are not worth my time.
I doubt that pintails even served and if so he was probably kicked out.

I like your point of view Bro Brian.
