Tea Party Anyone?

70

By Brian Gosur

On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to send back three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and threw all the tea over board into the bottom of the Boston Harbor. This act, along with other events in our American history, was very instrumental in leading our country down the road to declare it's independence over British rule, and eventually the revolutionary war.

The Tea Party was the culmination of a resistance movement throughout British America, against the Tea Act, which was passed by the British government in 1773.

Although it is not about tea anymore, but the modern day "Tea Party Movement" certainly has very striking similarities.

It is a group of American citizens, from all over this country, coming together to stand for the constitution of the United States. Not the constitution of some small judges or a few government leaders, who have decided that they don't want a government for the people and by the people, they want a government for them and by them. They want to dictate to you and me, what you do, when and where you will do it, and by what means you will do it.

53 years ago, premier Nikita Khrushchev, of the then, "Soviet Union", said to all America, " we will bury you without firing a single shot." Are we seeing the fulfillment of that prophecy? Are we on the road to socialism?

What is Socialism?

Basically it is a political movement that has as it's goal, to create a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the government, (or authoritative powers in control), for the purposes of increasing social and economic freedom, equality and cooperation.

In a socialistic government, all your choices are slowly taken away. The government will tell you who to hire, what's right and what's wrong, and how much money you can earn. and where you will go to school. It will initiate policies to take money from those who earn it and give it to those who don't, and a myriad of other policies that are directed at controlling and balancing the wealth and the social structure of the nation.

Government mandated health-care was a first step in that direction. Despite the fact that over 60% of the American public opposed the government health-care bill, it was given to us. That doesn't sound like a government by the people.

How did we get into this mess?

The world looks at us Americans as fat, greedy, pigs. They see the things we have, and we want more. The big houses, new cars, and all the latest techno gadgets, just never fill our appetite that continues to yell for more and more. We buy things we don't need, with money we don't have, and if we don't have it we go to the banks and they will loan us the money, and charge us ridiculous interest rates, that we can never pay back. Our discontentment will never be satisfied.

Ladies and gentlemen, our government has handled it's financial situation in the exact same way. We are a country that is so far in debt, we can never pay back the trillions and trillions of dollars that we owe foreign countries.and banks.

Wages continue to fall and the gap between what you and I make and the discretionary income we have, as compared to what corporate America has is totally ludicrous. How can CEO's of companies earn enough money to pay millions and millions in bonus's and pay raises to it's corporate leaders, all the while the companies are failing and laying off it's employees? We see it all around us and the gap only continues to grow larger and larger.

Can we get out of this and get back on the right road?

I think we have two things going for us today, and only two things. The Tea Party Movement has brought people back to reality and what this great country was founded on. The constitution was put in place to protect the rights and freedoms of individuals, not some power hungry and greedy corporate leaders and government officials.

Why do you think that the liberal democrats are scared to death with this coming mid-term elections? They are soon going to be out of a job. But that will only happen if you and I exercise the one freedom that we still have, and that is to vote.

You hold the key. Come election day, if you don't like the way your Congress, Senate, or Governor is running things, you get to cast your vote to put him or her in the unemployment line.

Slowly but surely, little by little our freedom to choose, is being taken away. I may not agree on what you choose, but it's your choice. So long as your choice doesn't hurt others or infringe on their rights.

This is still a free country. We are still a country that every year, thousands and thousands are sworn in as new American citizens. If you are an American citizen, study the choices you have this election. See what the candidates stand for and then go and vote!

This is still a country for the people and by the people. God bless America!

"In a socialistic government, all your choices are slowly taken away. The government will tell you who to hire ... and where you will go to school" - in which country did you find this? I never heard of such things happening in Belgium or Sweden for example? (they are socialist countries)

And I have an important note to make here for all those who are scared of the big bad government. The government is us! We are responsible for the government! The government is there to serve the people so why be scared of your servant? I really don't understand this fear.

Your right, for the time being. I don't know if you've noticed a slight change of direction here with our government since Obama has taken office.

I did see a change, we got raped by Wall St. again, which put Obama there in order to distract us while being screwed.

Hello, Brian,

Thank you for this reminder of our nation's heritage; I have also been thinking on the original Tea party movement as I have began to observe this current move. They do certainly seem to have a heart for restoring things we have lost as a nation! I took note that you are a follower of Jesus Christ, and I feel led of the Lord to share a word of prophecy from a few of God's anointed and trustworthy elders of this time. It contains a prophecy about a new political party on the horizon. I hope this serves to encourage you as it does me. I am also wondering if the Tea Party movement could be a beginning of the fulfillment of God's promise through his prophets?

May the will of the Lord be done! God bless you!

Thank you Panguerita for the nice comments and I appreciate you taking the time to write them.

We do live in a world that does not look to or even acknowledge God. I saw some old footage of Ronald Reagan quoting from the bible, the other day, and I thought, how would that have passed through the news media today?

It's a time for change and all of us hold the key. Vote

Thank you and God bless Panguerita

It is sad that Mr. happy thinks there is nothing to fear. We are not being represented, and are headed to socialism, and I AM scared. GOOD HUB.

It is a very scary time in our country right now and in the world. We are running out of good strong leaders.

Don't forget to vote. It's our biggest weapon.

Thank you bayoulady for your comment.

Fear does not help in our social circumstance. What I was trying to say is that we should not fear the government because the government is us. We are RESPONSIBLE for our government. If we let it be hijacked by Wall St. and interest groups thorough bribery (lobbying), who's fault is it? Ours in my opinion. So, we should take the government back from lobbyists by making lobbying illegal and perhaps introduce legislation that would hold politicians accountable when they betray their constituency. You cannot control something you fear and therefore, if people fear the government they will not be able to control it and it will control them.

I read your hub Mr. Happy and it was very good. I left a comment on it for everyone to read.

I do think fear is always your worst enemy. We need to stand up and speak up. Much like our forefathers did when so many poor farmers stood up and fought the big British machine for their freedom and ours.

Sitting back and watching everything go by is not acceptable.

Very awesome hub Brian, it's nice to see the Tea Party presented in a positive light rather than a negative on.

Thank you Rachell. I think fear has taken hold of the liberals in office and the only platform they have is to attack anything that moves. The Tea Party movement and anything that speaks the truth is always going to be a threat to them.

Texasbeta 10 months ago

"Fear" has taken hold of liberals? Really? I am liberal and very involved in the political scene, and I am sorry but quite the opposite is occurring. From the outside, we see the dying breath of American conservatism, displayed in the Tea Party. Let me explain more clearly. The conservative agenda appears to want to go back to the 50s. Time progresses and pushes old ideas, more conservative ideas, out the door. That is how life works, always. The populace is changing quickly, pushing down the "ownership" by white men which has historically been the case. How do the minorities view the Republicans? Ever see Gangs of New York? See Butcher Bill. You are going to have a few years with a slurry of conservative activism, which is starting now, to fight the "changing America", but it won't help. We all see that from the outside. The views are going to get more and more extreme and right wing focuses, but that doesn't mean a groundswell is occurring; it means they/you are getting backed up against the wall and fighting. However, you can't fight time. People are getting more involved in politics, taking the main stage, while displaying less and less knowledge of what is actually going on, its history and context, which is again...displayed as the Tea Party. Nope, liberals are not considering themselves as fearful, but patient. In 10 years, the entire concepts that you are fighting for will have long since passed, and you will lose. No matter how many hubs you put up or how many birth certificate conspiracies you come up with...time wins, and time is on the liberal side.

You Texasbeta, like most of your liberal friends need to check into the nearest hospital as quickly as possible.

Texasbeta 10 months ago

And there it goes....the proverbial conservative "nuh-uh" point of view. Nice. Well, let's take a look. In the 50's would gay marriage have been possible? What about desegregation? What about a black President? What about a Mexican Supreme Court Justice? What about an openly gay mayor of Houston? What about women in combat? We can go on forever...history has never gone to the "more conservative" point of view as time progresses, period. So, you can play in the sandbox all you want, but facts are facts, and history is history. You can't win. Now, in 20 years when whites are a minority in the country, what do you think will happen then? How is the conservative vote with minorities? Yeah...good luck there Tonto.

And there you go, a typical liberal who can't see the forest because of the tress. Always on the personal attack, always breeding separation and not unity, although that's the platform most of you stand on but never bring about. Your selfish and the only agenda that you have is yours. The very same things that you accuse conservatives of doing...you do also. I'm tired of arguing with morons like you. You go your way and I'll go mine, and we will see who wins in the end. You wouldn't even be on this site and attacking me if you weren't worried Tonto. (which is a deliberate attack against my Indian heritage, but that's how you liberals play...dirty)

Have you ever been in a crowd and someone asks a question. The people who step forward and answer are the leaders and the ones who wait and than criticize and take jabs at the person who stepped out and answered. That's you Tonto. That's all you do, is sit back and attack everyone but never come up with any ideas of your own, because you don't have any. You aren't a leader, you are a stone in a man's shoe, just rubbing and irritating till he stops and throws you to the side of the road with the other useless stones. You have no value to anyone. I wish that's all I had to do is just sit behind my computer and take jabs at all the hubs I don't like. Get a life Tonto. Try writing something useful and come up with some ideas that we all can use. Try adding to your five hubs that you've written, and thank you for correcting my spelling, I don't know what I would have done without you. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Don't you want nice roads and bridges? Ones that don't fall apart on you. We need infrastructure fixes on a scale only the government could afford through taxpayer funded system. Putting people back to work should be number one. Demand the engine of the economy is falling and so will business profits. Put people to work now and reap the rewards later. How do you think the Hover Dam was built?

The Tea Party are corporate funded and not so much of a grass root movement as you think. When corporations are at the helm expect them to look after what they want.

The Boston Tea Party was about a CORPORATE TAX CUT, not an increase in taxes. The colonists did not revolt because of taxes, they revolted because of an oppressive Monarchy.

Brian Gosur profile image

Brian Gosur Hub Author 8 months ago

We are the government, not those guys in the congress, senate, or the white house. They work for us and we tell them what to do.

You're right, we need to get people back to work and that will only happen when companies, small and large, start hiring, and that will only happen when the demand for products grows and that will only happen when companies start hiring.

I guess we're back to square one again. Now what do you do?

Brian Gosur profile image

Brian Gosur Hub Author 8 months ago

The tea party movement today has nothing to do with the Boston Tea Party except the name. It's about less government and more us. I want to spend my money the way I want to do not give it to the politicians and have them decide.

End the Bish tax cuts and use that money to invest in the USA instead of waiting for trickle down that will never happen. We have spent over 3 trillion on tax cuts that created NO JOBS. The top 2% can handle a 4% tax increase.

If the Tea Party actually studied why our democracy was formed they'd find they were protecting us from corporations.

Tax the corporations who got rich on tax payer roads, protected by taxpayer cops, and hired employees who were educated by TAXPAYER MONEY! They are making RECORD profits and can afford it,

Right now the Obama Jobs plan will free up money for small business to get loans to expand and hire so support that first.

Brian Gosur profile image

Brian Gosur Hub Author 8 months ago

Tax the rich because they can afford it is socialism. If I'm a small business, which I am, or a large corporation, even if I got a tax break, why would I invest in hiring more people when there is no one buying my products now? What incentive are you going to give me to invest in a struggling economy?

Obama's jobs plan stinks!

Brian Gosur profile image

Brian Gosur Hub Author 8 months ago

What do you mean, invest in the USA? How are you going to create jobs by simply creating new taxes?

The 90's boom was not created by Clinton or the liberal democrats, economists credit those years to the often criticized , Regan economics. He created the climate that created jobs and economic growth like we've never seen before.

As long as Obama and his liberal democrats are in office this America that we know is going to come crashing down. We are running out of time. We need people who know what their doing to take the reins.

PoliticsNOW profile image

PoliticsNOW Level 3 Commenter 8 months ago

Obamas jobs plan frees up money so banks will lend to small business to expand as well as tax breaks to hire by the way. I know you don't want to believe in ANYTHING Obama does. I get it.

We have to BORROW to fund the tax breaks you know this right? They were passed in order to spur job growth and they have NOT WORKED! We BORROWED 3 trillion and LOST MILLIONS of jobs. What don't you get. They were supposed to be temporary tax BREAKS. END THEM, they only add to the debt. Please show me in the past 10 years of spending 3 trillion WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

As long as the Tea Party do the bidding of the banks and corporate scum that screwed us all. Us Liberals will have to come in and save the coutry.

O so Reagan created the boom? You know he raised taxes 11 times. YES 11 T I M E S! So your theory is MOOT!

Brian Gosur profile image

Brian Gosur Hub Author 8 months ago

There is no money to free up. Just like the bailout money didn't create any jobs because all those institutions just invested it and lined there own pockets.

Liberals save the country! What a joke!

I didn't say Reagan didn't raise taxes, I said his economic policies are what economists attribute to the boom that you liberals and Clinton take credit for.

You are MOOT!!!!

Politics you are just like your friend Tex and all the other liberals. You are the back seat drivers that love to make all the noise but never say anything, anything constructive that is. All you want to do is forever proving your point, argue and yell and scream till everyone just has enough. You never offer anything to a solution, just a bunch of noise, that's all you are.

That's why you always have to go to other people's hubs and do your screaming because no one comes to yours. Nobody likes you!

Go get a job, I don't have time to go back and forth with your meaningless garbage.
